Reason Behind Adam being Named Adam

Here is a Muwaththaq (reliable) Hadeeth about the reasoning for Prophet Adam (عليه السلام) being named “Adam”.

(Taken from my personal copy of Al-Sadooq’s `Ilal al-Sharaa’i`, vol. 1, ch. 10, pg. 22, hadeeth # 1)

“Chapter on the reason for Adam being named Adam”

Muhammad Al-Halabee from Abee `Abd Allaah (عليه السلام): “Verily, Adam is named Adam because he was created from crust/dirt of the earth”

After the Hadeeth here is what Al-Sadooq says:

The compiler of the book (Al-Sadooq), may Allaah be pleased with him, said: “The earth has four (kinds of
crust/dirt, and Adam created from it, therefore it is said Adam is created from the crust/dirt of the earth”
