`Umar Creates Bid`ah by Moving Maqaam Ibraahim

Here is a great article by Zeshan Zaveri (zzaveri from shaichat)

I asked Aboo Ja`far (عليه السلام), “Did you meet al-Husayn (عليه السلام), He (عليه السلام)replied, “Yes I remember when I was with him in the Sacred Masjid (Ka`bah) while the flood had entered it.  People stood on the station of Ibrahim and those coming out said, “The flood has moved the station away,” and others when coming out said, “The station is in place.” He (the Imam) said that he (al-Husayn) asked me, “O so and so, what do they say?” I replied, “I pray to Allah to keep you well.  They are afraid and say, “The flood may have taken away the station,” He (Imam al-Husayn) said, “Announce this, “Whatever Allah, most High, has made a banner (a light house), He does not take it away.  So you must calm down.”  The place of the station as Ibrahim had designated was near the wall of the House, and it remained there until people of the time of ignorance (jahiliyyah) moved it to the place where it is today.  When the Holy Prophet liberated Makkah, he returned it to its original place where Ibrahim had placed it.  It remained there until `Umar ibn al-Khattab took charge.  He asked people, “Who among you knows the place of the station where it was before?” A man said, “I know it.  I had taken its measurement on a belt and I have kept it with me.” He (`Umar) said, “Brint it for me.”  He brought it to him and he measured it, and then returned it to that place.”

From a Long hadeeth of Ibn `Abbaas:
وقد كان هذا الحجر ملصقا بحائط الكعبة على ما كان عليه من قديم الزمان إلى أيام عمر بن الخطاب رضي الله عنه ; فأخره عن البيت قليلا ، لئلا يشغل المصلين عنده الطائفين بالبيت ، واتبع عمر بن الخطاب رضي الله عنه في هذا

“And this stone (maqaam ibraaheem) was attached to the wall of the ka`bah and which was there from the old (ancient) times until the days of `Umar bin Al-KhaTTaab (رضي الله عنه); he removed it from the house a little, lest the people busy in prayer from the people (doing) tawaaf around the House, and they followed `Umar bin Al-KhaTTaab (رضي الله عنه) in this.”

Conclusion: As we can see, that the 2nd Caliph, `Umar ibn al-Khattab, once again he has exercised his Ijtihad (own opinion) and created another Bid’ah (innovation) into the religion of Islam by moving Maqaam Ibrahim from the original location (i.e. The Sunnah) which was established to be attached to the wall of the Ka’bah at the time of our Holy Prophet Muhammad (SAWAS).  This is one of the many bid’ahs (innovations) either removed or introduced into the religion of Islam by the 2nd Caliph `Umar ibn al-Khattab.

    masha'allah

unfortunately omar (ra) innovated a lot in the religion of Allah , maybe his intentions were good but innovations are innovations

  2. Wasil that was so sweet :)
Atleast treat him like you treat the innovators within Shiaism.

  3. And Hadrat Ali (رضي الله عنه) followed Hadrat 'Umar (رضي الله عنه) in this great bid'ah.

  4. Asalaam 'Alaykum,

very interesting. I find it fascinating that in defense of such practices, some will merely try and justify it through claiming others followed suit in this Bid'ah (referring to it as great!!) which doesn't make sense unless others followed by once more moving the Maqaam of Ibraheem (AS).

May Allah place the innovators with the innovation in the here after.

  5. Dear Anonymous,

Umar made up new innovations into Islam and they are many. Imam Ali (S) did pointed them out to us, in his sermons he clearly states that we are not followers of the sunnah of the first 3 caliphs. we follow the sunnah of the Messenger of Allah and not the sunnah of the 3 caliphs with bibi ayesha.

Imam Ali (S) tried to fix a lot of things which got damanged by the first 3 caliphs and tried to bring back the true Islam. but Ayesha and Mawiya did not let him complete the job. he did a lot to preserve the truth teachings of the Prophet Muhammad in the form of Shia'sm to sincere Muslims. but satanic conspiracies from the ruling party in syria (mawiya) , and Ayesha tried their best to contain true Islam (Imam Ali's Caliphate) backwards and fall out of power... Imam Ali (S) along with his sons (Imam Hasan, Husain) did their best to expose the ruling party and their innovations into Islam. until Imam Husain got himself killed in an open battle field along with his 18 step brothers and companions.

  6. Salaam A'laikum Anonymous User on the 3rd Post,

How can you be proud to say great bid'ah?

Evidently you are not paying attention to Sunni Shaykh's when they begin each of their Khuthbas.

    كُلُّ بِدْعَةٍ ضَلَالَةٌ وَ كُلُّ ضَلَالَةٍ فِي النَّار

  7. Salamu Alaikom,

Why did not Imam Ali (as) correct this Bid'a?

  8. To the man who wouldn't even tell us who he is and disagrees with me i say : show us who u are ! are you scared ?
anyway i don't love omar(ra) but i do respect him as an influential personality in islam and he had some good qualities and also some serious defects that most of us know. imam ali(as) showed these people respect during his life so should we and this doesn't mean loving them or stopping exposing their bad deeds but we must be honest.

  9. Wa A'laikum Asalaam,

Good Question Brother. Imam Ali didn't correct them because he would have received a similar response to this as he did when he tried to create another bid'ah by Umar called Salat-ul TaraweeH.

    --------------------

Read this hadeeth that explains what happened when Imam Ali (as) tried to correct the bid'ah of TaraweeH.

In at-Tahdhib from `Ali b. al-Hasan b. Faddal from Ahmad b. al-Hasan from `Amr b. Sa`d al-Mada’ini from Musaddaq b. Sadaqa from `Ammar from Abu `Abdillah . He said: I asked him about salat during the month of Ramadan in the masjids. So he said: When Amir al-Mu’mineen came to Kufa, he commanded al-Hasan b. `Ali to call to the people: There is no salat during the month of Ramadan in the masjids in jama`a. So al-Hasan b. `Ali called to the people by what Amir al-Mu’mineen had commanded him to. So when the people heard the saying of al-Hasan b. `Ali they shouted: O `Umar! O `Umar! So when al-Hasan returned to Amir al-Mu’mineen he said to him: What is this sound? He said: O Amir al-Mu’mineen, the people are shouting: O `Umar! O `Umar! So Amir al-Mu’mineen said: Say to them: Pray.

The source to the above hadith is in Tahdhib al-Ahkaam (by Shaykh Toosi) Volume # 3, pg. 70 Hadith #30

Majlisi Graded the above Hadeeth as Mawaththaq (Reliable)

Conclusion: Notice When Imam Ali noticed the slight bit of possible Fitnah (dissenssion) starting up he said let them pray. Because they were shouting out وَا عُمَر Wa 'Umar (2nd Caliph) which is the way they called out the dead in the Arabic Culture as symbol of mourning. As if implying "Oh Umar look what Ali is doing to the Taraweeh prayer (your prayer) after you are gone." You notice they also didn't say (Wa Muhammad) because they themselves know this is sunnah of Umar and not that of the Prophet and which in turn becomes a bid'ah (innovation/heresy) that has been added into the religion post the Holy Prophet .

  11. The Sunni sources doesn't say like your hadiths say. and the hadith you quoted contradicts the Sunne sources. like Ibn Katheer, Ibn Katheer, Al-Halabee, Al-Seerah Al-Halabiyyah..

Since shias through out history are known by their hypocrisy and lies, they changed this story a few degrees to attack Amir-ul-Muminin Umar Al-Farooq (ra).

Ali (ra) prayed Taraweh Prayer as Umar (ra) did.

  12. Serious Sam,

You call that a refutation since when did we take Sunni ahadith as Hujjah or even start caring about them.

'Ali was not a filthy innovator like Omar ibn al Khattab

    ReplyDelete
  13. to the sunni anonymous i say: the last prophet for you and your likes is not mohamed ibn abdilleh (saww) but omar ibn khattab (rah) and after all many of you believe in fabricate hadith saying that if there was a prophet after mohamed (saww) it would have been Omar!!!
Sunnism is the biggest lie in history and this is not an exaggeration: your sect was created by the anti-ali (as) camp , many of your founders are nawasib :

-ayesha (rah) was enemy of imam ali(as) and fought him which means she wanted him dead.

    -muawya laeen

-marwan ibn al-hakam and his cursed family

then came your nasibi-defending scholars like bukhari and jawzajani then ibn taymyyah then ibn katheer and many many others.

but the first person who set foundation for all evil was omar ibn khattab because even though he was not a nasibi but his quest for power and his belief that he can do better and that he can do ijtihad against nass was the first foundation for fitnah. he was the first person to dare challenging ahlbayt(as) openly and others followed on his footsteps. yes he didn't hate ahlbayt(as) and i believe he was not a nasibi and neither was abu bakr (this is also the view of sayed al-khoei (rah) by the way)but he was from main causes of tragedies of ahlbayt(as)

  14. Salaam A'laikum Mr. Anonymous,

The Quran says in Surah 27 verse 64 "Say, Bring your proofs if you are truthful"

You are leveling a claim that states that we are misrepresenting the information in the above article.

Can you please provide proof of our misinformation and our distortion of the facts?
