Reward for Visiting Imam Ali (عليه السلام) & Imam Hussain (عليه السلام)

Here is a SaHeeH hadeeth that shows the job for angels every day. Also, this hadeeth shows the great reward you will receive, inshaa’Allaah, if and when you visit the grave of Imaam `Alee (عليه السلام) and Imaam Al-Hussayn (عليه السلام).

This hadeeth is rather long, so I broke it up into three parts, that way you can read it easier. But all three parts are from one hadeeth, which is SaHeeH.

From Muhammad bin Muslim from Abee `Abd Allaah (عليه السلام) said: “Allaah has not created a creation more than the angels, and that they descend 70,000 angels descend every day, and come and do Tawaaf around bayt al-ma`moor. And when (they finish) they descent and do Tawaaf around the ka`bah. And when (they finish) they come to the grave of the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم), and say salaam upon him. Then they come to the grave of Ameer Al-Mu’mineen, and say salaam upon him. Then they come to the grave of Al-Hussayn (عليه السلام), and say salaam upon him. Then they fly upwards (go back to Allaah), and (others) like them (different angels) will descend forever until the day of Judgment.

And he (عليه السلام) said: “Whoever visits Ameer Al-Mu’mineen (عليه السلام), and recognizes his right, without being despotic and without being arrogant, Allaah (سبحانه و تعالى) will write for him the reward (ajr) for 100,000 shaheed (martyrs), and Allaah (سبحانه و تعالى) will forgive his previous sins and his later (future) sins, and he will be resurrected of those who are safe (Amineen), and his hisaab (accounting of deeds) will be easy. And the angels will receive him, and when he departs to his home they will follow him.  And if he is sick, they (the angels) will visit him, and if he dies, they (the angels) will follow him to his grave and seek forgiveness for him.

He (عليه السلام) said: “And whoever visits Al-Hussayn (عليه السلام), and recognizes his right, Allaah will write for him thawaab (reward) of 1000 accepted hajj, and 1000 accepted `umrah, He (سبحانه و تعالى) will forgive him for his previous sins and his later (future) sins.”

  1. Bro Nader,
Thank you for the hadith. It means visiting Najaf & Karbala, right?
Btw, despite that it's a sahih hadith, its matan is a little troubling. It said that the angels visit the grave of Imam 'Ali (as) & Imam Husayn (as), but how about the graves of other aimmah? Why the difference & why the angels don't also visit them?

  2. Assalaamu `Alaykum Brother,

Just because the hadeeth doesn't necessarily say that the angels visit the other A'immah, that doesn't mean they don't visit them. So it isn't out of the realm of possibility. The hadeeth doesn't say that the angels "only" visit those 2 Imaams. Unless the hadeeth explicitly states that, it cannot be considered a khaS (specified) statement.

  3. Why do the angels need to visit the graves when they can say salaam to the people in heaven.....
Just not making sense to me
