Interpretation and Opinions

Here is a Hasan (Good) hadeeth Al-Qudsi (Sacred Hadeeth) about what Allaah (عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ) thinks of those who interpret His (جل جلاله) words by his/her own opinion. This hadeeth shows that you must interpret the Qur’aan only through the Ahl Al-Bayt (عليهم السلام), and not by our opinions. This hadeeth also shows the abandonment of Qiyaas (analogical reasoning).

From Al-Rayyaan bin Al-Salt from `Alee bin Moosa Al-RiDaa from his father from his fathers from Ameer Al-Mu’mineen (عليه السلام) said: The Messenger of Allaah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) said: “Allaah (جل جلاله) said: ‘No one believes in me whoever interprets my words with his own opinions, and no one recognizes me whoever likens me to my creations, and no one is upon my religion whoever employs Qiyaas (analogical reasoning) in my religion’”

The Conception of Fatima

Here is a Hasan(Good) hadeeth about how FaaTimah (عليها السلام) was conceived. This hadeeth is a fairly lengthy, but I am only narrated the relevant part about FaaTimah’s (عليها السلام) conception.

There is a little bit of ikhtilaaf (disagreement) about the primary narrator (`Abd Al-Salaam bin SaaliH), whether or not if he was an `Aami (Sunni) or a Shee`ah. Al-Khoei in his Mu`jam Rijaal Al-Hadeeth and Al-Tafreeshee in his Naqd Al-Rijaal have said that he is a Shee`ah. While earlier scholars such as Al-Toosi and Al-Hillee have stated that he is an `Aami (Sunni). Even if we were to say he was a Sunni, the hadeeth will only be lowered to Muwaththaq (Reliable), because it is 100% established that `Abd Al-Salaam bin SaaliH Aboo Al-Salt is thiqah (trustworthy).

From `Abd Al-Salaam bin SaaliH Al-Harawee (Aboo Al-Salt) said: I said to `Alee bin Moosa Al-RiDaa (عليه السلام): “….And the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) said: ‘When I was taken to the heavens, Jibra’eel (عليه السلام) took me by my hand, and I entered Jannah. Then, he (Jibra’eel) gave me from the heavenly dates, and I ate it. Then that altered my sperm in my loin. So when I returned to the earth, I had sexual intercourse with Khadeejah (عليها السلام), and FaaTimah(عليها السلام)  was conceived, and FaaTimah (عليها السلام)  is a human Hooree. So whenever I yearn the scent of Jannah, I smell the scent of my daughter, FaaTimah (عليها السلام)’”

Desirability of Wearing White Clothes

Here is a Muwaththaq (reliable) hadeeth that discusses the desirability (mustaHab) of wearing white clothes. All of the narrators in the chain are thiqaat (pl. thiqah - reliable), but one of the narrators in the chain is said to be a non-12’er Shee`ah (i.e. Ibn FaDDaal).

There are two different isnaad that have the same matn (content), one of them has a strong chain, while the other has a weak chain. Since, we have a strong chain then the hadeeth with the weak chain will become mu`tabar (valid/established).

From ibn Al-QaddaaH from Abee `Abd Allaah (عليه السلام) said: The Messenger of Allaah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) said: “Wear white, for in that it is goodness and purity, and enshroud (kafan) your dead in that (white).”

Here is the same hadeeth but with a different chain of narrators. This chain of narrators is considered weak because of Mu`alla bin Muhammad, but since we have a strong chain with the same matn (content), this hadeeth is mu`tabar.

Hadeeth About Imam Hussain

Here is a BEAUTIFUL hadeeth, the grading of this hadeeth is Hasan (Good). This hadeeth is fairly lengthy, so I have broken down the Arabic and translation, that way it is easier on the eyes and easier to read.

In this hadeeth there are many things we can see. One thing is that here is another authentic hadeeth from Shee`ah books that has the famous hadeeth al-thaqalayn (two weighty things). Another thing is that it gives the number of the Ahl Al-Bayt (عليهم السلام) who died in Karbalaa’ on `Aashoorah with Imaam Al-Hussayn (عليه السلام). Also, this hadeeth gives the permissibility of mourning for Imaam Al-Hussayn (عليه السلام), while making mourning for others makrooh (disliked).

The reason why this hadeeth is Hasan (Good) is because of Aboo/Abee Muhammad Al-AnSaaree. He is praised (madH), and the rest of the narrators are thiqaat (pl. thiqah).

May Allaah (سبحانه و تعالى) make us all TRUE lovers of the Ahl Al-Bayt (عليهم السلام) like the shaykh (old man) in this hadeeth. Aameen.

From Mu`aawiyah bin Wahab said: “I was sitting with Ja`far bin Muhammad (عليه السلام) when a shaykh (an old man) who was bent from being old came. So he (the old man said) said: ‘Assalaamu `alayka wa raHmatullaahi wa barakaatuh’ So Aboo `Abd Allaah (عليه السلام) said to him: ‘Wa `Alayka Assalaam wa raHmatullaahi wa barakaatuh, O Shaykh come to me’. So the old man came to him (عليه السلام) and kissed his (عليه السلام) hand and cried. So Aboo `Abd Allaah (عليه السلام) said to him: ‘O Shaykh, why are you crying?’ He (the old man) said to him: ‘O son of the Messenger of Allaah, I have been wishing to be with you for about 100 years. I (kept) saying (to myself): ‘This is the year, this is the month, this is the day, and I did not see you. And (now) you censure/stop me from crying?!’

He (the narrator) said: Aboo `Abd Allaah (عليه السلام) started to cry and then said:’O Shaykh, You will be with us. And that you will hurry to be with the weight (thaqal) of the Messenger of Allaah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) on the Day of Judgment. So the shaykh said: ‘I will take heed and after today I wlll not (cry) O son of the Messenger of Allaah

So Aboo `Abd Allaah (عليه السلام) said: ‘O Shaykh, The Messenger of Allaah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) said: ‘Verily, I am leaving with you two weight things (thaqalayn), and if you hold on to them you will NEVER go astray: (they are) The Book of Allaah revealed, and My `itratee, the Ahl Al-Bayt. I will come and you will be with us on the Day of Judgment.’

He (عليه السلام) said: “O Shaykh, I do not think that you are of the people of Koofa? He (the shaykh) said: ‘No’. He (عليه السلام) said: ‘Then where are you from?’ He (the shaykh) said: “May I be sacrificed for you, from Sawaaduhaa (?)’

He (عليه السلام) said: “Where are you (in regards) to my oppressed grandfather’s grave, Al-Hussayn (عليه السلام)” He (the shaykh): “I am close to it (the grave).” He (عليه السلام) said: ‘How (often) do you go to him (grave of Al-Hussayn)’ He (the shaykh) said: “I go there frequently”

He (عليه السلام) said: “O Shaykh, Allaah (سبحانه و تعالى) will seek the blood of him (Al-Hussayn), there is no calamity for the children of FaaTimah (عليها السلام) like the calamity of Al-Hussayn (عليه السلام). And 17 members of his Ahl Al-Bayt (i.e. family) were killed. They have patiently (strove) on the side of Allaah. And He (سبحانه و تعالى) has rewarded them the best of rewards for the patient ones.

‘And when the day of judgment (arrives), the Messenger of Allaah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) will come with Al-Hussayn (عليه السلام), and his (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) hand on his (عليه السلام) head dripping with blood. Then he (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) will say: ‘O Lord! Ask my ummah (nation) why did they kill my son?!’

And He (عليه السلام) said: “Every grief/sadness and crying is makrooh (disliked) except the grief/sadness and crying upon Al-Hussayn (عليه السلام)

4.     `Abd Allaah Al-Hussayn said All Narrators Are Thiqah except Aboo Muhammad Al-AnSaaree who is praised
à Rudda Al-AbaaTeel, pg. 54

About Aboo Muhammad Al-AnSaaree:

He has been said to be majhool (unknown) in Al-Kashee’s rijaal book called Ikhtiyaar Ma`arifah Al-Rijaal, pg. 613, tradition # 1140:

“What is narrated about Abee Muhammad Al-AnSaare from the companions of Al-RiDaa (عليه السلام):
Aboo `Amr (Al-Kashee) said, that NaSr bin Al-SabaaH said: Aboo Muhammad Al-AnSaaree is of those who Muhammad bin `Eesa Al-`Ubaydee and `Abd Allaah bin Ibraaheem narrates from, and he is majhool (unknown) and is not recognized.”

The issue is that the person who is weakening Aboo Muhammad Al-AnSaaree is NaSr bin Al-SabaaH, who himself is considered da`eef and a ghaali (exaggerator). And when a weak person is calling someone else weak or strong, his words hold no weight since he himself is weak.

(NaSr bin Al-SaBaaH) is Da`eef / Ghaali according to:
1.       Al-Toosi, Rijaal, pg. 449, person # 6385
2.      Al-Najaashee, Rijaal, pg. 428, person # 1149
3.      Al-Kashee, Ikhtiyaar Ma`rifah Al-Rijaal, pg. 18
4.      Al-Hillee, Al-Khulaasah, pg. 262, person # 2
5.      Al-Kashee, Ikhtiyaar Ma`arifah Al-Rijaal, pg. 322

On the other hand, there are proofs of Aboo Muhammad Al-AnSaaree having praise (madH). For example, there is a sanad (chain of narrators) in Al-Kulayni’s Al-Kaafi, vol. 3, pg. 127, hadeeth # 1, where Muhammad bin `Abd Al-Jabbaar (who is highly thiqah) says that Aboo Muhammad Al-AnSaaree is a good person

Another example of praise is from Al-Sadooq, where either Ibraaheem bin Haashim or Al-Sadooq praises Aboo Muhammad Al-AnSaaree. This is seen in the chain of narrators as well in Al-Sadooq’s Ma`aanee Al-Akhbaar, pg. 142, hadeeth #1:

Scholars have taken these praises in the chain of narrators as a proof to Aboo Muhammad Al-AnSaaree’s being praised (madH). Scholars such as:

Reward for Remembering Ahlul Bayt and Crying

Here are two SaHeeH hadeeth that talk about the great reward you will receive when you mention the Ahl Al-Bayt (عليهم السلام) in a gathering and if you cry.

Both hadeeth start off with similar chains in a way, and then go through different chains as it goes farther away from the Imaam (عليه السلام). Both chains of narrators go through thiqaat (pl. thiqah) narrators.

Being a Proud Shia

Here is a beautiful hadeeth that is SaHeeH that the Imaam (عليه السلام) is telling us to be a proud shee`ah. This is because we are the ones following the path of Allaah (سبحانه و تعالى).

From Kulayb bin Mu`aawiyah said Aboo `Abd Allaah Ja`far bin Muhammad (عليه السلام) said: “What prevents you when you speak to the people that you tell them we went where Allaah went. And we chose whoever Allaah has chosen. That Allaah (سبحانه و تعالى) chose Muhammad (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم), and we chose the family of Muhammad (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم). So we are clinging on to the best from Allaah

Reward for Visiting Imam Ali (عليه السلام) & Imam Hussain (عليه السلام)

Here is a SaHeeH hadeeth that shows the job for angels every day. Also, this hadeeth shows the great reward you will receive, inshaa’Allaah, if and when you visit the grave of Imaam `Alee (عليه السلام) and Imaam Al-Hussayn (عليه السلام).

This hadeeth is rather long, so I broke it up into three parts, that way you can read it easier. But all three parts are from one hadeeth, which is SaHeeH.

From Muhammad bin Muslim from Abee `Abd Allaah (عليه السلام) said: “Allaah has not created a creation more than the angels, and that they descend 70,000 angels descend every day, and come and do Tawaaf around bayt al-ma`moor. And when (they finish) they descent and do Tawaaf around the ka`bah. And when (they finish) they come to the grave of the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم), and say salaam upon him. Then they come to the grave of Ameer Al-Mu’mineen, and say salaam upon him. Then they come to the grave of Al-Hussayn (عليه السلام), and say salaam upon him. Then they fly upwards (go back to Allaah), and (others) like them (different angels) will descend forever until the day of Judgment.

And he (عليه السلام) said: “Whoever visits Ameer Al-Mu’mineen (عليه السلام), and recognizes his right, without being despotic and without being arrogant, Allaah (سبحانه و تعالى) will write for him the reward (ajr) for 100,000 shaheed (martyrs), and Allaah (سبحانه و تعالى) will forgive his previous sins and his later (future) sins, and he will be resurrected of those who are safe (Amineen), and his hisaab (accounting of deeds) will be easy. And the angels will receive him, and when he departs to his home they will follow him.  And if he is sick, they (the angels) will visit him, and if he dies, they (the angels) will follow him to his grave and seek forgiveness for him.

He (عليه السلام) said: “And whoever visits Al-Hussayn (عليه السلام), and recognizes his right, Allaah will write for him thawaab (reward) of 1000 accepted hajj, and 1000 accepted `umrah, He (سبحانه و تعالى) will forgive him for his previous sins and his later (future) sins.”

Unfortunate Monday

Here are two authentic hadeeth that talks about the day of the week the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) was born, the day he (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) died, and a good day to travel.

From `Alee bin Ja`far (عليه السلام) said: “A man came to my brother Moosa bin Ja`far (Al-Kaadhim) (عليه السلام) and said: ‘May I be sacrificed for you! I want to take a trip, pray for me.’ So he (عليه السلام) said: ‘And when are you leaving?’ He said: ‘Monday’. So he (عليه السلام) said to him: “And why are you leaving on a Monday?’ He said: ‘I want to seek barakah (blessings), because the Messenger of Allaah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) was born on a Monday.’ So he (عليه السلام) said: They have lied! The Messenger of Allaah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) was born on the Jumu`ah (Friday), and there is no day from great misfortunes than Monday. It was in this day the Messenger of Allaah died, and revelation from the sky ceased. And we were oppressed of our right (on this day). (He (عليه السلام) said): “Do you not (want me) to show you an easy simple (day) that in it Allaah made for Dawood (عليه السلام) the iron soft?” So the man said: ‘Yes, may I be sacrificed for you!’ So he (عليه السلام) said: “Leave on a Tuesday’”

From Abee Ayyoub Al-Khazzaaz said: “That we wanted to leave (for a journey), so we went to give our salaam to Abee `Abd Allaah (عليه السلام). So he (عليه السلام) said: ‘Have you tried to seek barakah (blessings) on Monday?” So we said: ‘Yes’ So he (عليه السلام) said: “No other day is of great misfortune than a Monday. (this) Day we lost our prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم), and revelation ceased for us, do not leave (on a Monday), but leave on a Tuesday”

Al-Majlisi said in his commentary of this hadeeth:

“And it is narrated by Al-Sadooq in Al-Faqeeh with a SaHeeH sanad from Abee Ayyoub, and it is narrated in Al-KhiSaal, also with a SaHeeH sanad from `Alee bin Ja`far from his brother (عليه السلام), and also by Al-Himyaree in Qurb Al-Isnaad. And it shows from the many akhbaar (hadeeth) that a day of misfortune is Monday, and that Tuesday is a day chosen for travel”
